Colombia produces approximately 15 million bags of coffee (of 70kg) a year, what places it in 2nd world position after Brazil. But he is the 1st world exporter of arabica (contrary to Brazil, she does not produce a robusta). In other words that for this country of 35 million inhabitants, the coffee holds a considerable place in the economy and that any valuable fluctuation has important consequences. Here, any fall concerns hundreds of thousand persons and facilitates the culture of coca. It is Spanish missionaries who planted the arabica, at the beginning of the 19th century, on the abrupt slopes of the Andes Cordillera. It grows between 900 and 2000 metres in height there.
These good geographical conditions, added to extremely looked conditions of culture, make some coffee of Colombia one of the best of the world. It is considered as its sweetness and its unctuousness.
